This month we caught up with Walker Dorald Turner from Myersville, MD. Dorald participated in her first Walk from Obesity event in 2016. She was invited to join the Maryland/DC Walk by her bariatric support group at Holy Cross Health.
Dorald knew she needed to lose weight in order to regain her health. So in 2016 she had Gastric Sleeve Surgery and has since lost 150 lbs. “Walking has made a huge impact on my transformation,” Dorald told us. She is now walking at least 5 miles a day even with bad knees. Walking has made a difference in her life and she has seen amazing outcomes.

We asked what the best part of the Walk from Obesity was and she told us it was getting to meet other participants in her program who understand her struggle and who are on the same journey as she is. “It was the best experience because I was with others facing obesity problems, and I was not judged for the way I looked. In today’s society being overweight makes for not only health problems, but low self esteem, lack of confidence and lack of energy. Walking is the best way to start to make a change.”

We asked Dorald if she would be participating in the 2017 Walk from Obesity in Maryland and she said yes. She encourages other to join too saying “It’s something that can lead to great things, like being a healthier you. The first step is the best one!”

We look forward to seeing you again Dorald! Thank you for sharing your story with us.
